4. UNAUTHORIZED USE.

You may not use, copy, rent, lease, sell, modify, decompile, disassemble, otherwise reverse engineer, or transfer the SOFTWARE except as provided in this agreement. Any such unauthorized use shall result in immediate and automatic termination of this license.

5. DISTRIBUTION.

You can make as many copies of the shareware version of this SOFTWARE and documentation as you wish; give exact copies of the original version to anyone; and distribute the SOFTWARE and documentation in its unmodified form via electronic means. There is no charge for any of the above.

6. LEGAL USE.

Computer Application Studio respects the rights of artists and film companies, and the proper use of the SOFTWARE does not violate those rights. You cannot copy DVD disks in order to sell or give away copies, or for any commercial purpose.

7. THIRD PARTY LIBRARY.

A binary copy of OGG/Vorbis library is included in this SOFTWARE. OGG/Vorbis library is licensed by Xiph.Org Foundation.

A binary copy of LAME mp3 library is included in this SOFTWARE. LAME mp3 library is licensed by www.mp3deb.org.

DVD Audio Extractor - very good all round

I was unable to download the application via this site and had to download it from another source.

I used the application to extract multichannel audio data from a DVD-Audio/Video disc I had previously authored. As expected, the application was not able to see the DVD-Audio MLP data on the disc or offer to extract it. However, it correctly identified the two audio programs in the DVD-Video zone of the disc, namely a Dolby AC3 multichannel stream and a DTS multichannel stream.

I noted that it was possible to define the digital word length and sample rate of the extracted data, and specify a range of destination formats both lossy and lossless. As a test I extracted the DTS multichannel stream to WAV files at 44.1 kHz, 24-bit, although the original sample rate was 48kHz.

The data was extracted flawlessly, however the output files were labeled with channel numbers, not surround designators, so the channel order had to be determined by auditioning the output files. It would be useful if the channel allocation of multichannel-derived files could be included in the filename (eg LF, RF, CF, LS, RS, LFE) as the data should be available from the stream. The test disc contained 4.1 channels, ie LF/RF/LS/RS/LFE, and it was not immediately obvious which channels were which.

Apart from this the app performed flawlessly. Sample rate conversion was satisfactory but perhaps not /quite/ as high quality as specialized SRC apps such as r8brain. The ability to output a complete stream as a single (set of) file(s) or sequence of files was a great help.

One cannot fault the application on value-for-money and feature set. Hopefully the minor enhancement suggested can be included in future versions.

Following a successful trial, I will be purchasing this application.
